the core dressings are used so that the temp of the melt may be reduced drastically so that there would be no need of over heating and and there will be less chances of defects like blow holes,mis-runs etc..

at the same time it also provides the sturdyness to the core which allows
to absorb shock while pouring which prevents the defects formed due to intermittent pouring.

of what i know the core dressing is mainly used in investment castings, but i wanna introduce it into the main stream SG IRON castings also so i need some theory on it before i can suggest it.
my doubts are will it take the heavy loads os the metal, if yes will we have to increase the wt of the dressing itself, so what are the alternatives--(I tried of finding some text on using aluminium)

plz reply ASAP.

and i seriously think there should be another section for foundry.

well what we can tell is "we will try our level best to provide you with the solution", and at the same time we are not assuring you that we will give you an answer. It is also because that we dont have any experts around to moderate this section and I myself need to look for the solution. I am trying as possible as I can, hopefully I will give you an answer within two days.

And about an extra section, I think it is not possible for the time being, as we already have a large number of sections and we will allocate a section for foundry if and only if we find a rush of, queries on foundry.

Anyway thanks for the message and suggestions.

core dressing
Applying compound to the surface of a core either in green state or after baking for the purpose of providing protection against scoring action of flowing molten metal and assist formation of smooth surface in acored hole or cored form. Materials used for this include finely ground graphite ,silica, mica, zircon, flour and rubber base chemical spray. Coatings may be applied to the core surfaces by brushing ,dipping or spraying.

Hi there
Not sure but these people have been very helpful in the past resolving queries on investment casting issues, is it worth getting in touch with them?[/url]
